On The Road Not Taken Most people believe that The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost was written to inspire people to be different, and to not follow the majority. However, the poem was actually written to gently tease one of Frosts good friends, and fellow poet, Edward Thomas. Frost and Thomas would take walks in the woods together, and Thomas would take Frost down one path and later regret not choosing a different path. This would lead one to believe that Frost is actually ridiculing the action of regretting decisions. Considering this pert nit background information, the poems meaning can be quite contrary to popular belief. It guides the reader from the idea that Frost wants you to differentiate yourself, to a concept of†¦show more content†¦Although a decision was made to take a certain path, it is ironic that Frost described both paths as being practically the same. Perhaps Frost used the word taken instead of chosen since there was virtually no choice to be made. The way the poem has b een remembered, is that one should follow ones own heart, and not what other people do. After only a brief review, it is conceivable how someone would assume the popular belief associated with the poem. However under a closer review there are many contradictions hidden within the poem. First the key concept towards the poems popular belief is that of choosing something different. At the very end of the poem Frost writes, I took the one less traveled by/ and that has made all the difference (19, 20), giving the reader the impression that a rebellious decision has been made. Frost contradicts himself earlier by describing the two roads as being about the same. Towards the beginning of the poem, at the end of the second stanza Frost writes, Though as for the passing there/ Had worn them really about the same (9, 10), and also at the beginning of the third stanza And both that morning equally lay/ In leaves no step had trodden black (11, 12), this leads the reader to believe that there isnt a big difference between the two roads, and that there is no reason to believe that one is less traveled than the other. Musical Influence on a Violent Society The event in Littleton, Colorado, 5 years ago was a shocking wake up call to our society. Because of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold’s fanaticism with artists such as Marilyn Manson, music was labeled as the culprit for negatively influencing the youth of America. Music is a tool of expression that an artist uses to vent their frustrations and to reveal their emotions. However, these artists do not see the moral boundary that they have crossed with their emotionally disturbing lyrics and dark melodies. To grab the attention of teenagers, musicians often produce music videos with a vivid portrayal of the song’s message. The depiction of sex and violence in rock and rap music and their videos influences children to take on the ways of the stars singing or acting on TV. The bank has two segments namely Global Retail and Commercial Banking (GRCB), and Investment Banking and Investment Management (IBIM). This organization provides convenience to the consumers and attracts them by giving quality service. The old concept of marketing has changed over times. Now the marketing activities are more focused on the customer satisfaction. So the orientation of activities is not bounded into a single area. Marketing orientation consists of production orientation, product orientation, sales orientation, market orientation and customer orientation. Production orientation As this company is mainly concerned with the financial services so here the production orientation is given on the valuable services. Psychographic segmentation is based on the psychology of the consumers. For example the recent evolution of mobile industry is the introduction of I phones. When a firm identified its market segments it wants to target then it is essential for the firm to develop some targeting strategies for those segments. The strategies can be of different in nature. In single segment strategy the firm is concentrating on the single market. Here single marketing mix technique is used. These strategies are mainly adopted by the small firms. A firm can formulate differential strategies when they are targeting different market segments. Here a firm can use different marketing mix. The most interesting thing about these strategies is that the products are often different in different segments. Product specialization strategy occurs if any firm is dealing with a very attractive product. The Duke and the Dauphin free essay sample

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, two conmen called the duke and the dauphin (or the king) constantly cause trouble for Huck and Jim. Though many say these two characters weaken the overall plot, they are actually quite important factor in the plot of the story and help move things along. When Huck and Jim first meet the duke and the king, they introduce themselves as an impoverished duke of England and the long lost son of King Louis XVI of France. Of course Huck is smart enough to realize the men were con artists and didn’t believe their silly lies. This is yet another example of Huck’s â€Å"street smarts†, for if someone like Tom Sawyer had met them he would have easily believed the two because it would have been something like the stories he was so fond of. As the group of four travels down the Mississippi River, they come across the funeral of a wealthy man by the name of Richard Wilks. Of course with the real brothers most likely not stopping by and loads of money sitting around, the duke and the dauphin jump on the opportunity and plan their next scheme. Almost anyone would agree that their latest plan was extremely low, even for two con artists. Huck is extremely disgusted with their scam saying â€Å"It was enough to make a body ashamed of the human race† (Twain 159). If the duke and the dauphin been a part of the plot, this scam wouldn’t have happened and as a result the audience wouldn’t see how empathetic and compassionate Huck really is. Through the intensity and seriousness of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a bit of the comic relief is needed and the duke and the king are the perfect pair. Though they may seem to play a pointless part in the book, the conmen are actually important to the plot by giving Huck and Jim a reason for moving from place to place and ultimately to their final destination, but more importantly for bringing out certain characteristics in Huck that the audience may not have seen without the duke and the dauphin.
